Challenge
Logistics operations are becoming increasingly complex due to growing product portfolios, increasing customization, global supply chains and high workforce turnover. Operators often need to identify parts, products or returned goods based on incomplete information, inconsistent labelling or imperfect images. Existing recognition solutions are typically designed for specific applications and controlled environments, making them difficult to deploy across diverse logistics and industrial processes.
Project goals
This project (SMILE_IRVA) aims to develop an AI-powered recognition engine and digital assistant that can identify products, parts and assets across multiple environments using images, text and company data.
The project will research advanced vision-language models, agentic AI and human-in-the-loop validation mechanisms to support applications such as order picking, reverse logistics, assembly, repair and automation support.
The goal is to improve operational efficiency, reduce errors and enable more flexible and intelligent logistics processes.
