Smaragd

Via SMARAGD, we assist SMEs in manufacturing to adapt to the new digital reality.

About SMARAGD

SMEs in the Meuse-Rhine region face major challenges. External developments such as rapidly emerging new technologies, increasing demand for sustainable products and a shortage of qualified staff make it difficult to keep up.

The SMARAGD project offers a powerful solution. Through a user-friendly digital platform, SMEs get access to:

  • Practical tools to implement smart technologies;
  • Develop sustainable products and;
  • Optimise their business processes.

In addition, the platform offers cross-border digital training modules so that employees can easily learn new skills.

Thanks to SMARAGD, companies not only gain insight into modern digital solutions for developing advanced, sustainable materials, but also the tools to innovate their strategies. Thus, they strengthen their competitive position and increase their opportunities on the international market.

Role of Flanders Make

Within the SMARAGD project, Flanders Make focuses on two main pillars:

  1. Debonding-on-demand technology.
    We are working on developing and applying smart debondable adhesives enriched with micro- and/or nanoparticles. This innovative adhesive technology enables controlled release of joints when needed. We are also integrating Digital Work Instructions via smart projection systems to make the bonding and debonding process more efficient, consistent and user-friendly for operators.
  2. AI-driven optimisation of composite reuse
    We develop advanced AI-based software that allows for the optimal reuse of residual composite material. This takes into account the expected mechanical properties and fibre structure of the material, with the aim of optimising the cutting pattern of the scrap material.

With this deployment, Flanders Make contributes to realising more sustainable production processes and increasing the digital maturity of companies within the project.
