Extracting knowledge for product development engineers

Challenge

In complex engineering and project management environments, accurate process models that reflect how design and decision-making processes actually unfold are often missing. As a result, there is limited support to detect process deviations in time or to guide engineers and project leads effectively through the next steps. In addition, relevant documents, guidelines and knowledge are not proactively suggested, causing teams to miss opportunities to work faster and more consistently and to achieve “first-time-right” results.

Project goal

In this project - EXKNOP_IRVA (EXtracting KNOwledge for Product development engineers) - we aim to accelerate complex engineering design processes and project workflows by monitoring process execution and providing proactive recommendations. We will develop methods to automatically discover and model processes, tools for compliance monitoring and process-related recommendations, and a knowledge graph-based engine that suggests relevant information at the right moment. In doing so, EXKNOP supports both procedural compliance and creative decision-making, enabling knowledge reuse for more efficient and higher-quality design outcomes.
