Challenge

Virtual ergonomics for better workplaces

When assembling heat pump units, operators perform precision work that can be physically demanding. Daikin wanted to optimise working heights to reduce strain and increase efficiency, without time-consuming physical test setups.

Technologies

Intelligent simulation of working heights

Together with Flanders Make, Daikin implemented a software package that automatically simulates and evaluates the body posture of operators. This enabled the ideal height for more than eight work cells to be determined virtually, allowing for rapid and accurate optimisation.

Result

Healthier, more efficient and globally applicable

The improvements have been implemented on assembly lines with 24 and 36 operators, resulting in less physical strain, higher motivation, less absenteeism and lower costs. The approach is now being applied worldwide to new complex assembly lines.
