Join ALPS_IRVA and explore how automated 3D scanning can help you turn complex geometries into actionable data with less manual effort.

Challenge

3D scanning large or complex parts is still a labour-intensive process. Today, scanning is often performed manually using commercial 3D scanners. Turning the resulting scans into actionable data requires extensive pre- and post-processing and expertise across multiple domains.

This makes the process time-consuming and difficult to scale, particularly when high repeatability and reliable digital traceability are required.

In this project, we address this challenge by developing an intelligent, end-to-end approach to 3D scanning that reduces manual effort while maximising the value of the captured data.

Project Goals

In this project (ALPS_IRVA), we will develop an end-to-end 3D scanning pipeline for large and complex parts, starting from commercial scanning solutions. The project brings together viewpoint optimisation, accurate localisation, robust markerless 3D reconstruction, AI-enabled error reduction and advanced GD&T analytics.

Compared to manual scanning, we target:

  • 50% less scanning effort;
  • 3x higher repeatability;
  • improved digital traceability; and
  • significant cost savings.

Participating companies can apply the project results to their own use case. The technology will first be validated on Flanders Make infrastructure and can then be evaluated for company-specific applications, giving companies access to advanced R&D while keeping their own development effort limited.
