Tech@Lunch September: Smarter battery design for electrified applications

Théo Tuerlinckx
Mechanical Lead Research Engineer

From usage profile to optimal configuration

How do you determine which battery system is best suited to an electrified agricultural machine, a vessel or an industrial application, without adding unnecessary cost, weight or volume?

During this Tech@Lunch, we will give a live demonstration of a new tool for determining battery capacity, which is directly linked to the system model of an electrified application. The tool translates a realistic driving, working or usage profile into the load that the battery must be able to withstand during use.

We’ll show you how to use our tool to quickly evaluate and compare different battery concepts, enabling you to make informed design choices and find the most suitable solution for your specific application. Consider, for example, a system using a single battery technology versus a hybrid system combining different battery types. Among other things, the tool supports the selection of battery chemistry, the series-parallel configuration, power distribution and the optimal size of the entire battery system.

Discover how to

  • Size a battery based on the actual operational load;
  • Quickly compare different technologies and configurations;
  • Assess the benefits and limitations of battery hybridisation;
  • Avoid oversizing and minimise costs, weight and space;
  • Retest the chosen battery design in other driving and usage scenarios.
