Tech@Lunch Special - Energy reduction in the industry
The energy crisis is kicking in. Families and companies are massively looking for energy-saving measures. But due to the sharply rising prices, lowering energy costs is also more urgent than ever for production companies. Technological innovation plays an important role in this story. Based on previous research, Flanders Make has developed a series of solutions to quickly reduce the energy bill of production companies. During this Tech@Lunch special, we present an innovation every Monday afternoon for 5 weeks that makes it possible to save much more energy and lower energy bills in the short term.
WHAT?
A series of five Tech@Lunch sessions about energy cost reduction in the make industry.
FOR WHOM?
For and by researchers, engineers and anyone involved in R&D.
WHEN?
Every Monday between 14/11/2022 and 12/12/2022 during lunchtime (from 12h30 to 13h00).
HOW TO PARTICIPATE?
Participation is free, you just need to register via the buttons below. You can easily register for one or more sessions. In the registration form you can select which sessions you want follow.
Compressed air leak localisation and removal
14 november 2022 // 12h30-13h00
The topic of the first session in this special series of 5 energy cost reduction webinars is "Compressed air leak localisation and removal". During this session we will show a fully autonomous navigation and detection system that we have developed to locate compressed air leaks. A problem with compressed air is often that there is production and release of leaks, causing a lot of energy to be lost. Sometimes up to 20 percent of the energy used by a compressor is lost through those leaks.
Energy-optimal motion trajectories
21 november 2022 // 12h30-13h00
The subject of the second session in this special series of 5 webinars on energy cost reduction is "Energy-optimal motion trajectories". During this session we mainly look at machines that make movements – such as a pick & place robot – and we give tips to minimize the energy requirement of that movement. We then mainly look at how we can optimize the trajectory from a to b on the basis of accurate models.
Upgrade legacy machines to enable supervisory (energy) control
28 november 2022 // 12h30-13h00
The topic of the third session in this special series of 5 webinars on energy cost reduction is "Upgrade legacy machines to enable supervisory (energy) control". During this session we will show how upgrading outdated machines contributes to better control of energy management. We work with the example of old compressors that generate compressed air, and which we have researched on the Flanders Make site. Through a simple check with various sensors, we were able to save almost 20% in energy.
Energy and resource efficiency of discrete manufacturing processes
5 december 2022 // 12h30-13h00
The topic of the fourth session in this special series of 5 webinars on energy cost reduction is "Energy and resource efficiency of discrete manufacturing processes". During this session, we will present a framework developed by Flanders Make for production machines with which production leaders can map the energy consumption and thus plot energy-optimized movement trajectories based on process parameters. In this way we enable them to take energy efficiency into account already in the machine design phase, or to opt for a different production process.
Optimal setting of your drive(s)
12 december 2022 // 12h30-13h00
The topic of the last session in this special series of 5 webinars on energy cost reduction is "Optimal setting of your drive(s)". During this session we will look in more detail at how the energy consumption in electrical machines can be optimized, especially in machines that run continuously and at the same speed and of which the so-called steady state can be optimized. We have examined all parameters within the electronics and what their influence is on the energy consumption of the motor, and we have been able to achieve energy savings of up to 10%.
