Making the best design decisions becomes more and more complex. Not only do products need to have more and more features and perform better, there is also an increasing number of technologies available to satisfy those requirements. Therefore, designers need methods and tools for making the right design decisions, especially in the early design stages which determine the largest part of the cost.
In previous research projects, Flanders Make created methodologies and software tools to support designers in the decision-making process. In this project, we will extend the existing CDS (Computational Design Synthesis) tooling by allowing to deal explicitly with uncertainty and by improving result visualisation to help the designer compare different solutions. It will aid designers to create robust conceptual product architectures. As such, companies can take the right decisions in the early design stages, which leads to better products and reduced design time and cost.
DC-CDS is an ICON-project (Interdisciplinair Coöperatief Onderzoek – Interdisciplinary Cooperative Research). We are looking for companies to join the consortium and work with us on the valorisation of the project.
