To support the construction sector and the entire construction value chain, landers Make, EnergyVilleBuildwiseEmbuild and Agoria are joining forces. Flanders Make and EnergyVille have identified four areas in which new technology will be developed to support companies. One of these is design rules for 'first-time-right' design and construction.

Design rules for 'first-time-right' design and construction

Why?

Prefab building elements are produced in dedicated manufacturing plants, based on 2D and 3D drawings. On-site, these often large and heavy prefab elements need to be connected to the building basis as well as to the other prefab elements. Unfortunately, still too often, small to large on-site adjustments need to be done to the basis and/or the prefab elements, and in the worst cases, a prefab element cannot be used. This is causing additional costs and delays in the overall project.

WHAT?

Producing prefab elements with the exact scaled dimensions as represented in the 2D and 3D scaled drawings of the construction would be quite challenging, if not impossible. Instead of investing in more expensive manufacturing processes that maybe could higher dimensional accuracies, it would be more convenient to include dimensional tolerances into the prefab designs.

HOW?

The idea is to develop design rules for the prefab elements that deal with dimensional tolerances of the actual construction and the other prefab elements, while keeping the potential additional prefab manufacturing costs in a good balance. Additionally, design rules for the tolerances of the prefab connectors could possibly be integrated as well.
