Flexible production systems through the CEROS research project

industry 4.0 techniques in your business

Flanders is home to a large group of manufacturing companies, spread across a broad spectrum of products and production processes. Yet almost all of them run into the following challenge: "How do I gear my production to a high-mix-low-volume approach?". Indeed, personalisation is unavoidable in today's production, and production batches are moving towards ever smaller batches of the same products. As a company, responding to this is only possible with a flexible production environment that can switch quickly.

We regularly see companies struggling to make full use of the technology available in their business. The challenges are:

  • Keeping an overview of available technology;
  • Connecting current systems and making them work together optimally;
  • Identifying new, available technology;
  • Investigate how new technology can work together with technology already present.

Technology suppliers and machine builders are asking for a better overview of the needs of manufacturing companies. This allows them, on the one hand, to start working with new technologies and production processes in a more targeted way. On the other hand, they can better answer the questions companies still have.

CEROS

What is CEROS?

Together with VLAIO, the CEROS project was therefore launched. This project, which runs under the programme 'Collective Research & Development and Collective Knowledge Dissemination' (COOCK), aims to solve these problems together. We support companies in designing and implementing flexible production systems, using market-ready techniques.

Goal of the project?

The aim of the project is to disseminate relevant knowledge in the market. We also want to efficiently support companies in their innovation process. We guide companies towards the appropriate technology to make their production environment more flexible. The target group for this research project is a mix of small, medium-sized and large enterprises where people are open or already have experience with robotics.
