From mass production to mass customisation
Now that companies are making the shift from mass production to mass customisation, traditional robots no longer suffice. Collaborative robots or ‘cobots’ fill in that gap. They are designed to work together with operators so that product quality remains high and the operators’ working conditions are improved.
And yet, smaller companies in particular are reluctant towards the introduction of cobots. Do the benefits outweigh the costs? What do I need exactly? Which changes will I have to make to my production for integrating cobots?
These are but some of the questions raised by business managers. It is precisely to lower these thresholds for the introduction of new technologies that research centres, chambers of commerce and knowledge institutions from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom work together in the COTEMACO project to encourage SMEs from their region through a voucher programme to implement collaborative robotics and digital technologies. With these vouchers, companies can attend training courses and demonstration sessions and are given technological support.
Are you a manufacturing company in Flanders with ambition? Do you sometimes consider introducing automation and human-robot cooperation or do you want to take your production to the next level?
