Integration and manufacturability aspects of lightweight structures exploiting inherent dynamic properties

Vibro-acoustic metamaterials offer interesting NVH solutions. In the IMALIGHT project, we focus on leveraging existing metamaterial technology towards industrial applications.

The Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) performance of conventional panels and structures is mainly driven by their mass. Unfortunately, low-noise structures often require heavy constructions, which conflicts with the trend towards lightweight design. As proven by academic demonstrators, resonant-based vibro-acoustic metamaterials come to the fore as possible novel NVH solutions. The challenge is now to turn these academic demonstrators into robust and reliable industrial solutions.
